Final Score: New York 9, Philadelphia 7

In a game that included eight home runs, Billy Wagner can thank David Wright for his five-out save, as the third baseman sprawled to his right and robbed Pat Burrell of a double in the ninth frame, allowing New York to outlast Philadelphia, 9-7.

Wagner's 13th save was anything but boring, as the left-hander struck out Chase Utley and Paul Lo Duca threw out Jimmy Rollins trying to steal second base to end the eighth frame.

The ninth inning demonstrated why the Mets remain at the top of the National League East with the Phillies sitting in the second position.

Bobby Abreu worked a leadoff walk, setting the stage for a battle between Pat Burrell and Wagner. There is no love lost between the two former teammates, as Wagner has publicly criticized his former teammates for lacking a killer attitude.

Burrell slammed a ground ball tight to the third-base line that seemed destined for left field. However, Wright lunged toward the bag and handled a high hop, starting a remarkable 5-4-3 double play to quiet the crowd and end the rally.

Wright also launched a home run while Carlos Delgado collected three hits and a solo homer. Jose Reyes scored three times and posted two hits, Lo Duca finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and Carlos Beltran clubbed a two-run homer for New York, which has won six straight and moved eight games in front of the Phillies in the loss column after the opener of a three-game set.

Chad Bradford (3-2) pitched 2/3 of an inning to pick up the win in relief of Tom Glavine, who gave up four runs on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout in 4 1/3 innings.

Jimmy Rollins delivered the first multi-home run game of his career, David Dellucci drilled a pinch-hit three-run home run and Aaron Rowand and Bobby Abreu hit solo homers for the Phillies, losers in two straight and four of their last five games.

Ryan Madson (6-4) was victimized by bad location of his fastball, yielding eight runs -- six earned -- on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts in five-plus frames.

A comedy of errors led to the floodgates opening for the Mets in the sixth frame. Wright led off with a go-ahead solo homer then Jose Valentin doubled into the gap in right-center field. Endy Chavez then placed down a sacrifice bunt, which Ryan Howard bobbled for an error. Lastings Milledge was hit by a pitch to load the bases and end Madson's evening.

Brian Sanches got Julio Franco to line out to Utley, who had an opportunity to double off Milledge at first. However, his throw sailed over the head of Howard, allowing Valentin to score for a 6-4 advantage.

Reyes was intentionally walked to load the bases, but the Phillies defense again let Sanches down. Lo Duca hit a ground ball to David Bell's left, but the third baseman couldn't make the play. Each player moved up a base as Chavez scored.

Aaron Fultz replaced Sanches and induced a ground ball to third by Beltran. In his haste to turn the inning-ending double play, Bell booted the ball then threw wide of Sal Fasano at home. The ball scooted away from the catcher and no one covered home plate, allowing Reyes to streak around third and slide safely into home for the second run on the play and a 9-4 lead.

Bell began an eighth-inning rally with a one-out single off Aaron Heilman, and Fasano followed with a double. Dellucci then cut the deficit to 9-7 with an opposite-field three-run homer.

Reyes displayed all of his talents in scoring the game's first run. He placed a perfect bunt down the first-base line for a single, stole second despite the Phillies pitching out and scored on Lo Duca's single to right.

The Phillies tied the game quickly in the bottom of the first, as Rollins hooked an offspeed pitch into the left-field seats.

The ball continued to fly out of Citizens Bank Park in the second frame with Rowand's fly ball riding the wind just inside the left-field pole for a 2-1 edge.

It was the Mets' turn to play long ball against Madson in the third, as Beltran crushed a long two-run homer following Reyes' double for a 3-2 advantage. Delgado then drilled a low-and-in pitch into the second deck in right field for back-to-back homers and a 4-2 game.

Abreu clubbed a low pitch over the fence in left-center field for his eighth home run of the season, bringing the home team within 4-3 in the third frame.

Rollins added another homer to his total in the bottom of the fifth inning, driving a high changeup over the left-field fence to square the contest at 4-4.

Game Notes

Phillies left-handed starter Randy Wolf left Tuesday's minor league rehab start with Single-A Clearwater in the third inning after taking a line drive off his left hand. X-rays were negative and the lefty will be further evaluated on Wednesday. Wolf is returning from a severe elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery...Howard's error was his ninth of the season...Brett Myers takes the ball for the Phillies on Wednesday against Orlando Hernandez for the Mets.
