Has Different Goals For This Year

Jeff Gordon,
the four time NASCAR champion, is off to one of the
best starts of his career. He has had three
consecutive top 10 finishes. The last time he
managed to achieve this feat was in 1997.
Now Jeff Gordon and his team
are concentrating on the next race. Gordon thinks
his team is very good and have improved a lot from
last year when they were trying to build themselves
up.
2005 was the lowest point of Gordon’s NASCAR career
when he failed to qualify for the Chase for the
Nextel Cup championship. However, Steve Letarte of
Hendrick Motorsport took over as Gordon’s crew chief
and the results were instantaneous with Gordon’s
team having four top 10 finishes in the last five
races of the season.
In 2006, Gordon won two races, made it to the Chase
and finished sixth overall. This year, Gordon is six
points behind Mark Martin. However, Martin is
planning to cut back his schedule to a partial one
so that he can spend more time with his family.
Martin has been a runner-up four times in the series
and there is speculation that he might stay on with
his No. 01 Chevrolet as long as he maintains his
lead after Kobalt 500. However, Martin is adamant
that he would not be racing in Bristol even if he
wins the Kobalt 500.
48 year old Mark Martin insists that he is just
taking a break to spend quality time with his family
and not walking away from racing. While 35 year old
Gordon different goals for himself this year. He
wants to win the championship.
